The June 2 primary is done — it's officially Becerra vs. Hilton on Nov. 3. Latest numbers from the Public Policy Institute of California.
Becerra opens up a 25-point lead. The first major post-primary poll (PPIC, Jun 29–Jul 6) has Xavier Becerra at 61% to Steve Hilton's 36% among likely voters — and Becerra leads across age, gender, income, and every major region. Hilton's path? Change the turnout math. With voters under 34 already casting a bigger share of primary ballots than in 2022, Gen Z could decide how wide this gap ends up on Nov. 3.
